North Bay Cabaret Gets Strange This Weekend

Posted by: on Apr 18, 2017 | Comments (0)

Sonoma County’s boldest monthly variety show, North Bay Cabaret takes over the Whiskey Tip in Santa Rosa once again on Friday, April 21, with burlesque, drag, circus, fire, comedy, poetry, hip-hop and more. And in the spirit of the show’s rotating theme, this month’s “Stranger Cabaret” is a science-fiction and horror inspired performance that draws from the strangest source material new and old.

Stranger Cabaret will feature Master of Ceremonies Jake Ward doing his best impression of the Eggo waffle-loving telekinetic experiment “Eleven” from last year’s smash hit series “Stranger Things.” Ward will be presenting a lineup of diverse acts, including Portland drag performance artist Pepper Pepper, Sacramento makeup artist and burlesque dancer Mone’t Ha-Sidi, San Francisco comedian Ash Fisher and many others. Local DJs, hip-hop outfit Antiphony and improv comedy troupe the Gentlemen Bastards will help round out the bill.

In observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, all of the raffle proceeds from the event will be donated to Verity, Sonoma County’s only rape crisis, trauma, and healing center – serving the community through prevention, intervention, and counseling.

Stranger Cabaret gets weird on Friday, April 21, at Whiskey Tip, 1910 Sebastopol Rd, Santa Rosa. 7pm. $15. 21 and over.

The monthly North Bay Cabaret always brings a new, distinct flavor to their ongoing variety shows, incorporating themes that range from Renaissance Fairs to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks in their imaginative array of burlesque dancing, live readings, standup, acrobatics and more.

This weekend, the Cabaret busts out the tanning spray and tank tops for their upcoming “Brovember” event that features everything from a special beer pong burlesque to a “bro” puppet show, fashion show, fire dancing, slam poetry and music.

Recent NorBays Music Award winner DJ Beset is the special guest in the Vinyl DJ Dance Room, and San Francisco’s Riflefeet bring an electronica backdrop to the main room. As always, the entire thing is hosted by the ultimate “Bro,” Jake Ward.

Now, remember haters, this is a satirical show, so bring a sense of humor when you “bro down” with the North Bay Cabaret on Friday, Nov 20, at Whiskey Tip, 1910 Sebastopol Rd, Santa Rosa. 7pm. $10. 21 and over. Details and lineup are here.

North Bay Cabaret Gets Medieval at Arlene Francis Center

Posted by: on Aug 28, 2015 | Comments (0)

The wildest variety show this side of the Golden Gate Bridge, the North Bay Cabaret usually hosts their monthly events at Santa Rosa’s Whiskey Tip, but this month the bands and burlesque dancers  are storming another castle of sorts, when North Bay Cabaret comes to the Arlene Francis Center in Santa Rosa’s Railroad Square for their “Hot August Knights” show tonight.

Organizer and host Jake Ward once again gathers a troupe of belly dancers, artists, spoken word and standup performers as well as live bands and DJs in the lounge. This month’s theme incorporates all the RenFair goodness of medieval days, with just enough Monty Python thrown in for fun.

New this time, besides the location of course, is a lower age limit (18 and over) and high-flying aerial acts performed by Amanda Grace and Katie Nicole. They join Gypsy jazz troublemakers Hot Club Beelzebub and DJs Aspect McCarthy and True Justice along with others, soundtracking a night that also includes local poets like Susanne DuganWilliam Lyon and even the AFC’s own Bruce Alan Rhodes.

There’s much more to be had at “Hot August Knights” tonight, so head on down and show Jake Ward, who just had his laptop stolen (boo!), some much needed love. Arlene Francis Center is located at 99 Sixth St, Santa Rosa. 8pm. $10.
